Constant Therapy’s unique NeuroPerformance Engine™ is the behind-the-scenes technology that makes our therapy customized just for each user. It uses large sets of data and algorithms vetted by neuroscientists and clinicians, to deliver recommended therapy exercises for stroke and brain injury survivors. These exercises are designed to meet the therapy criteria for each user’s specific diagnosis and demographics.
How It Works
- STEP 1: Remember those questions you (or your patient) were asked when you first created a Constant Therapy account? That’s STEP 1 (see diagram at right) in getting the NeuroPerformance Engine started up. We assign a specific set of initial tasks based on your answers to demographic and diagnostic questions like: what things are hardest for you (i.e., reading, attention, speaking, etc.)?, what type of event lead to your language or cognitive challenges? And others. Essentially the Engine looks for users who fit your same profile, analyzes what therapy content worked to improve cognitive and speech for those users, and automatically recommends specific exercises in categories and difficulty levels that are the best match.
- STEP 2: Next, you (or your patient) start doing the exercises initially assigned. If you’re a patient working with a clinician, you can both decide whether to accept or adjust the initial recommended exercise program. Either way, Constant Therapy delivers customized exercises to you. The NeuroPerformance Engine constantly tracks your progress, noting which tasks are too easy, which are too hard, and which are just right. The Engine not only tracks how many questions you got right or wrong, but also how long they took.
- STEPS 3 & 4: Next, the NeuroPerformance Engine reviews and adjusts your therapy program based on factors such as accuracy, speed and cues requested. The Engine is designed to assign the most appropriate next step task, whether that’s an easier reading task or a harder attention task, for example.
- STEP 5: This step sums it all up – the NeuroPerformance Engine continuously assesses and then adjusts exercises, so that you (or your patient) are always doing the right exercises for recovery goals.
How This Process Helps Work On Core Life Skills Post-Brain Injury
Constant Therapy’s primary goal is to help brain injury, aphasia and stroke survivors work on their core life skills, and to help clinicians to use the program and data to further their exceptional work with their clients. Things like reading comprehension, telling time, selecting items from a menu, listening to a voicemail and understanding the main messages, etc. – these are all practiced exercises which, when “remastered”, translate into life skills and help get back to the activities enjoyed prior to injury.
Constant Therapy is a cognitive & speech therapy app that helps people with brain injury, stroke and aphasia work on key speech and cognitive skills – like memory, math, reading, writing, counting change, and more – needed to get back to an active life. Built and tested by a team of top neuroscientists and clinicians at Boston University, Constant Therapy has proven effective in multiple peer-reviewed, published research studies. Both clinicians and patients can download and use Constant Therapy.
